Girl Education
Matraanchal

Matraanchal is the sister organisation of Vatsalya Vatika in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India, educating 220 poor girls free of charge and providing full boarding and lodging facilities to around 90 orphan or very poor girls. The institute aims to make each girl economically independent by including vocational training in the curriculum and also takes the responsibility of marrying the adopted girls when appropriate.
At present 75 of the 90 adopted girls are studying at the premises up to class 8th, the others go to local schools for 9th to 12th class. It is an English medium school with 12 teachers. So far 5 of their girls have graduated and are working and 17 girls have got married under their guardianship.
On the vocational front they teach stitching, painting, handicrafts, computers and martial arts. The paintings and handicrafts are sold at the public functions to help raise funding for the institute.
They also run a creche for the local children on fee payment basis to help with the finances.
The school has only one room with Digital Education facility for 220 children. Since they have spare rooms in the building we thought this would be the ideal help we could provide to start with.
